The Gentleman’s Summer Shoe Choice
Gentlemen it’s that time again where we start saying goodbye to winter. If you haven’t started already, you need to be altering your wardrobe to be ready for the warmer months that are approaching. Changing up our wardrobe obviously involves more than just our shirts, trousers, and shorts. It also involves our footwear. After doing my best to research for you the latest trends, and dapper looks coming this summer, I have a few choices for you to choose from to upgrade your footwear.
The Suede Derby. This is a great shoe that I suggest for the dry seasons of spring and summer. Fall can work, but that’s stretching it. These are classic and give you a fantastic casual option for your wardrobe. Suede Derby’s are available in a range of colors, but for the spring and summer months I will suggest purchasing beige or navy blue. When it comes to applying these to your personal style be sure to wear them with dark denim, a polo, or rolled up chinos and a button-down shirt. We are going a little more relaxed, but maintaining our ability to stay dapper.
The Two-tone Brogue. One of my person favorites is the two-tone Brogue shoe. Available in a variety of styles and colors, the beauty of the brogue is its ability to be worn with pretty much anything in your wardrobe. Wear them with a blazer, worker jacket, or a well-dressed shirt. It’s a simple, but powerful shoe. If you look at adding this shoe to your personal style I would like to suggest keeping it formal. Start by pairing them with a nice summer suit. Again when choosing a starter color stick with subtle color combinations.
The Espadrille. If you ask most people if they wear these, you will get a funny look and then they will ask you “What are those?” You can answer them back by saying: “They’re the best possible summer shoe.” The Espadrille comes in a variety of materials such as suede, cotton mesh, rubber, and canvas. They are lightweight and very fashionable for spring and summer. You can wear these with shorts and a t-shirt or with chinos and a button-down shirt. If you’re feeling adventurous throw in some tapered trousers, a pressed shirt and linen blazer.
The Leather Tasseled Loafer. Ok I know that this pair of shoes sounds like something your grandpa would wear. The truth is, he probably did, but we need to bring dapper back. Adding leather-tasseled loafers will do that. I’m sure you’re asking why leather? Good question. Leather can be utilized all year round and is more practical than suede versions. You can never go wrong with the Leather Tasseled loafer because it’s a classic piece. Make sure you invest in a high quality leather loafer. Again tan is a good color to start.
This is just touching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to footwear. I’d love to hear which pair of shoes you like, which pair you would consider wearing, and which pair you’re going actually go and purchase, so leave a comment below. Enjoy the weather guys and have fun with this as we head into summer.
